Team Spotlight: Jason Taylor, Project Manager

Jason Taylor of Copperline Homes in Bend, Oregon.

Jason is a gem of a project manager mined from the ranks of Copperline’s loyal and long-standing subcontractors. Jason’s past life and introduction to Copperline came way back in 2012 when he was working as an electrician and running his own business. His attitude, work ethic, and craftsmanship set him apart back then and, ultimately, led him to where he is now - an invaluable part of the Copperline team.

Jason grew up in Southern Oregon and started working in the construction industry at a young age - working with his older brother for a summer when he was 16 and working for his dad for 8 years learning the trade. He met and married his wife, Misty, in 2000 and set about starting a family at a young age. During the economic downturn he started working part-time to stay home and help raise their two young sons, Hudson and Porter. In 2008 Jason, Misty and the boys came to Bend to look at a car and the rest is history.

Jason is a soft-spoken guy - he doesn’t bowl you over with his words, but he’s an excellent listener. You can feel by his gentle nature and the sparkle in his eye that he genuinely cares about what you’re saying. He’ll confirm this hunch the next time you chat with him when he remembers a detail about what you said or something important about your life or your family. It’s probably why he’s transitioned seamlessly into the "born-to-be" project manager that he is. Jason is a team player and makes everyone around him better for being part of his team. He says that the best part of his job is all of the people and different personalities he works with. He considers every subcontractor on his job site his friend and the feeling is mutual. Jason’s the guy who gets out of his truck to help you carry a heavy load onto the job site, he’ll ask after your kids or about your weekend, he’s conscientious about checking in with his neurotic boss, not too much, not too little, but just the right amount (right, Josh?)

Jason’s easy-going nature likely comes in handy off the job site now that his boys are 16 and 18 and their interests have ranged from racing motorcycles to fixing up hot rods to snowboarding to mountain biking to driving drift cars. It also must have been a necessity when he and Misty sold everything they owned in 2015 and spent 3 years living in an RV, traveling around the country, and homeschooling their boys. Jason says that those 3 years on the road were full of incredible life experiences that made the choice to come back to Bend all the sweeter.

In his understated way, Jason says that the best part of working for Copperline is knowing that it’s something he chose to do as well. He feels an ownership to this job even though, ironically, it’s not his company this go-round, because he had a choice about what to do after being a business owner. He loves the autonomy of running his own job site, the camaraderie of the team, and the beautiful finished product at the end. Jason’s the real deal. He’s as honest, straightforward and earnest as they come. Copperline and our clients are all truly lucky that his path, complete with 1000’s of miles logged all over the lower 48, led back to Bend and to homebuilding. He’s an irreplaceable part of the Copperline family and an inspiring leader to the guys that take a Copperline project from a plan on a sheet of paper to a forever home. “I treat every house I build like it’s my own and I care more than clients realize about the finished product.”
